September- What's New At The Backpack Coalition

Our first distribution was this past Friday (September 7th), but we've had a couple of very busy weeks getting ready for it. It's time for some thanks.

First, to the wonderful anonymous donor who provided funds for our new floor. It looks amazing, thanks to hours and hours of work by volunteers (some who answered my panicked call and came to the rescue).

Second, to the amazing Global Client & Compute Solutions team from Dell who put in over 200 volunteer hours in a 10 day period to get us ready to launch. They accomplished a LOT: disassembled old equipment, assembled new furniture, picked up, delivered, and sorted 11 pallets of food and 51 cases of cereal, and put together over 1000 kits. They also donated over $1000. I was in awe of their energy and enthusiasm.

Finally, to our regular volunteers who showed up ready to get started with the new school year. I'm sure all the students they saw on Friday could tell how happy everyone was to get back into the swing of things.

On to what's next. September isn't shaping up to be any less exciting. Our Wednesday group volunteer spots are filled, and our individual spots for Tuesday and Thursday evenings are filling up fast. We are on target to feed over 1000 students each weekend in our program. Our HUGE event, The Hunger Games, will be on Friday, September 21, at the Round Rock Sports Center. If you have time, join us for the awards ceremony at 3:30pm.

Our September donation emphasis is Easy Mac. If you'd like to make a donation or sponsor a food drive, let us know.

Did you read the Volunteer Spotlight this month? How about our note from Kathy?

Have a great rest of September! Thanks for helping us Feed Our Future!
